BSB: Mossey: 'I've got the fight back in me!'

Luke Mossey was relieved to be fighting at the front as the 2018 Bennetts British Superbike Championship got underway at Donington Park this weekend.

The JG Speedfit Kawasaki star’s confidence took a knock after a nasty crash at Thruxton last year saw him break his back in numerous places. While he returned for the end of the season, Mossey admitted he wasn’t particularly ready and rounded out the year a shadow of his former self.

However, after a strong pre-season test campaign, he was able to start 2018 fighting for a podium in the opening race before grip issues halted his charge and saw him finish fifth.

He was again fighting towards the sharp end in race two until a moment involving Jake Dixon saw him run on at the Foggy esses and lose several places.

“I feel like I can officially now say I’m back where I should be,” Mossey told MCN. “I’m really happy with my riding, as soon as someone was coming past me I was straight back at them so I’ve got the fight back in me, I’ve got the bit between my teeth and I want to start winning races again.
“This weekend wasn’t our weekend, but I’m happy to come away fifth in the championship given how the weather was this weekend. You’ve got to play the long game as it’s a long championship. Brands Indy was where I took my first victory and then double last year so I can’t wait to get there and get going.”
