BSB: Ellison: 'I've got nothing to lose'

McAMS Yamaha’s James Ellison says he has nothing to lose at Silverstone as he looks to turnaround a challenging 2017 season to secure a spot in the all-important Showdown six.

After this weekend, just six riders will go on to fight for the MCE British Superbike crown over the final three rounds and while Ellison’s tough season leaves him 42-points off a top six spot, with three races at Silverstone he believes it’s all to play for.

Having taken his first win of the season last time out at Cadwell, the Cumbrian will be hoping he can continue to ride the wave of success.

Convinced he can still fight for the title if he can secure a top six spot, Ellison is determined to lay it on the line over this weekend’s three races.

“I’m feeling really confident coming into Silverstone,” he said. “After Cadwell Park the championship is pretty much back on track; nobody is secure in the top six, not Shakey, not Haslam, so we come into Silverstone with three races and 75 points up for grabs and there isn’t much between us.

“I am relaxed; the last couple of races I have been pushing for the win and I was a bit more cautious because I didn’t want to lose anything, but at Silverstone I have nothing to lose now. If we don’t give it everything and don’t bring everything to the table we won’t be in the Showdown so I am going to do whatever it takes because I want a spot and if we can get into the top six then we can still win this championship.”
