BSB: Race runs the priority for quickest man Haslam

Leon Haslam laid down the marker on the opening day of the 2017 MCE British Superbike Championship at Donington Park to lap quickest ahead of team-mate Luke Mossey.

The JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider clocked a quickest time of 1’29.323 in the second session, but also showed imperious race pace in the second session as he clocked nine laps in the 1’29 bracket placing him in a strong position for Sunday’s two races.

“The opening day has gone really well,” Haslam said after the session. “We did a full race run on both the soft and harder tyre options and found we could be quick on both, which is nice to see. We’re looking good for the rest of the weekend and now I’m just keen to carry the momentum into tomorrow.

“Hopefully the weather still stay on side as I’m keen to start the season well and it looks like we’re in a good position to do it so far.”

Team-mate Luke Mossey was also lapping consistently in the 1’29s, he added: “It’s been a really good day. It’s so nice to actually be riding at a race weekend after a lot of testing!

“We’re in a really good position, and it seems the changes with Pirelli tyres have played into our hands this year. The SC0 seems much better on tyre life and we’ve made a few improvements there too, but Leon also did a run on the harder option, which is a bit softer this year, and went quite quick so that could also be an option for us.”
