BSB: Mossey: 'It's nice to be back on track with our competitors'

Luke Mossey got off to a strong start at this week’s MCE British Superbike Cartagena Pro-Test to set the second quickest time on the opening day behind McAMS Yamaha’s James Ellison.

Mossey, who is traditionally quick at the Spanish track, set a 1’33.4 on day one, just 0.3 slower than his time after four days of testing at this time last year.

It’s not the first outing for the Cambridge rider’s JG Speedfit Kawasaki team after a brief two-day shakedown at Jerez in January, but it’s the first time Mossey has been able to put himself up against the competition he’ll face in BSB this year.

“It’s nice to be back on the bike on track with the people who we race with as last time we were out with the WSB boys, which was a good test but we couldn’t really tell where we were!” he said. “The first day was good, I had a small tip off at the end after hitting a false neutral into the hairpin and the barrier was coming at me pretty quick so I dropped it at walking pace.

“It was nice to have an open pit lane on the first day as we could try a lot of things, much more things than we tried here last year so we should be in a good position to try more things this week and try and beat our time from last year!

“I dusted myself off but it’s looking good for the rest of the week. It’s going to be a tough year so we need to be on the top of our game but it’s been really positive so far and we’ve still got six days on track before we go to Donington.”
