BSB: Guintoli gets first taste of Yoshimura-spec Bennetts Suzuki

Sylvain Guintoli got a first taste of the Yoshimura-spec Bennetts Suzuki GSX-R he’ll race in this year’s MCE British Superbike Championship at a windy Almeria today.

The 2014 World Superbike Champion wasn’t able to be at the team’s first Spanish test in Cartagena earlier this week due to personal reasons, but flew out to Spain on Friday to test his full BSB specification machine for the first time.

It wasn’t his first spin on the new GSX-R having already had two outings at Mallory Park on a hybrid Superstock/Superbike similar to the machine team-mate Taylor Mackenzie has been testing this week.

However, it was a tough opening day for the Frenchman with an electrical problem meaning he’d get just a handful of laps on his machine instead opting to lap on Michael Dunlop’s bike which is close in spec to his own.

The team fixed the issue towards the end of the day and allowed Mackenzie a few laps to ensure everything was working before Guintoli takes over the reins tomorrow for what will hopefully be a full day of testing weather permitting.
