BSS: Gowland makes racing return with Smiths Triumph

Graeme Gowland will return to action in the British Supersport class this weekend as he makes a racing comeback more than two years after badly breaking his leg.

Gowland took 12-month sabbatical from racing after breaking his femur in a testing crash at Guadix in March 2015 and hasn’t raced since, but now feels the time is right to make a comeback and see if he still has the form that saw him as a favourite for the title going in to the 2015 season.

He will return with the same team he rode for when he broke his leg, Smiths Triumph, who have stood by him since the incident with Gowland often in the garage providing support to their riders.

“I want to say a big thank you to Alan, Rebecca and the Smiths team for standing by me after all this time and giving me this opportunity,” Gowland said. “I can’t wait to get back on track at Snetterton. I have only wobbled around Knockhill last summer since breaking my leg 2 years ago so im just going to take my time to get back up to speed and enjoy it.”

Rebecca Smith added: “We are delighted to be able to get Graeme back out on a bike this weekend at one of his favourite circuits. We have been supporting Graeme (and him us!) throughout the whole of his rehabilitation since his crash during pre-season testing at Guadix in March 2015. He is an exceptionally talented rider and one of the nicest guys we know so the decision was an easy one when Graeme suggested riding again. Whilst there is no pressure from us regarding results the ultimate aim is to get Graeme back to competing at the level he deserves to.”
