Luke Mossey led the way on a dramatic opening day for the fourth round of the 2017 MCE British Superbike Championship at Knockhill.

The JG Speedfit Kawasaki man was narrowly under the race lap record with a quickest time of 48.221sec to round out the day fastest.

Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne was second quickest, just 0.397sec off Mossey’s fastest time with Josh Brookes rounding out the top three on the Anvil Hire Yamaha.

It was a day to forget for many riders with FP1 turning into somewhat of a crash-fest as seven riders hit the deck. Three of those were taken to hospital. Leon Haslam sustained two cracked vertebrae, Christian Iddon suffered a laceration to his left him and Glenn Irwin, who is undergoing scans for a suspected dislocated elbow and shoulder with all three expected to miss the remainder of the weekend.
