BSB: Team WD40 sign Bridewell for 2017

Tommy Bridewell has signed a deal to compete with Team WD40 for the 2017 season aboard Kawasaki’s all new ZX-10RR. 

The Devizes rider was almost certain to remain with the Halsall Racing squad for the season ahead, but was left without a seat when Halsall opted to pull the plug on his British Superbike effort in favour of a move to the roads.

However, a multiple BSB race winner, Bridewell was not without options for 2017 including a potential deal to remain with Suzuki in the new Bennetts-backed Hawk squad, but instead opted become Team WD40’s sole BSB rider. 

“I’m excited about the challenge ahead to be honest,” Bridewell told MCN. “I feel fresher in my mind, in myself and my training is back to where it was and needs to be. I feel much more driven and motivated than I have been for quite a while, which is nice. Sometimes it’s hard work for me to go out running or I have to drag myself to the gym, but now I’m training six days a week and if my body would let me I’d do seven!

“I enjoy the laid back and relaxed approach the team has given me, it’s just what I needed. It was very similar in Martin’s team last year, he was more of a friend than a team owner and it’s a massive shame they decided not to continue but it was his decision. I had two or three options on the table and I felt that the place I’d feel most at home was with WD40 and that’s why I opted for that choice.”
