BSB: Anvil Hire Yamaha boss: 'The plan is to shock people'

It’s fair to say the Anvil Hire Yamaha squad are somewhat the underdogs in BSB. In 2016, their highest ranked rider was James Rispoli in 27^th having finished just one race in the points that season.

However, team boss Rob Winfield is confident that having signed a recent British Champion, they’ll easily be able to turn things around for the season ahead.

“To sign a former British Champion is a huge opportunity for us,” he told MCN. “Last year was pretty difficult for us, but I think a lot of the improvement will come with the rider. We knew the bike was there last year and we’re doing more development now ready for the season.

“We’ve always had good power from the bike, more than we had with the Kawasaki, but we’d like a little more and then we want to work on being able to calm that down in the right places for certain circuits. We’re working a little bit on reliability too.

“In 2015, we had BSB podiums with Richard Cooper so we’ve shown we can do it. 2016 was our first year with Yamaha but it just didn’t come together.

“The plan is to shock people this year. We know what Josh is capable of and he’s done it on a Yamaha. We know quite a lot about the bike he was on last year after talking to Tommy Hill who ran it last season. There was the option to buy those bikes from him, but we’d rather go into our second year with bikes we know to make the job easier all round.”
