BSB: Haslam plotting WSB, MotoAmerica and World Endurance wildcards

Leon Haslam is hoping to add a host of wildcard appearances to his regular MCE British Superbike duties in 2017.

The 2016 BSB runner-up signed a contract directly with Kawasaki UK at the end of last year, which places him with the JG Speedfit Bournemouth Kawasaki team in the British series but leaves the door open for him to compete with Kawasaki in other series around the world.

Haslam wildcarded for the Pedercini Kawasaki team in the final round of last year’s World Superbike series and took an impressive fifth place and when drafted in to help the new Puccetti Kawasaki squad in testing at Portimao last month he placed fourth quickest overall.

While he’s adamant no wildcards are finalised for the year ahead, Haslam has confirmed to MCN that there are options for appearances in World Superbikes, Japanese Superbikes, Moto America and the World Endurance Championship on top of his traditional visit to the Suzuka 8 Hour.

“There is talk about wildcards and doing other races,” he said. “MotoAmerica, World Endurance, Suzuka, World Superbikes etc. All of them are a possibility but it’s a matter of talking to Kawasaki and seeing what they want me to do. I’d race every weekend if I could, but obviously these trips take up a lot of time and I don’t want to burn out, especially when it comes to the Showdown.”
