BSB: Opinion: Can Shakey be stopped?

Byrne’s Brands Hatch dominance was somewhat of an ominous prospect. Last year, while he was super quick at Snetterton, Brands and Thruxton he only did the double at Brands, but with two of those circuits now ticked off with two victories apiece and the five-time champion heading to what he says was the bike’s strongest circuit on the calendar, his rivals should be concerned.

Even with the Showdown system, Byrne is racking up podium credits while his main rivals so far this season, Leon Haslam and Luke Mossey, have taken almost none in recent rounds and although Josh Brookes looks set to join the title fight, he also failed to score any podium points last weekend.

The title fight is far from over, but the more they allow Byrne to get away the more difficult it’ll be come those three all-important rounds later in the year.

No rider has ever won more than four consecutive races in a season without going on to be champion, so the odds would be stacked well in Byrne’s favour should his streak continue in Hampshire this week. Haslam struggled at Thruxton last year, but Mossey and Brookes have a strong record there.
