BSB: Mossey: 'I'm confident I can break Shakey'

Luke Mossey is confident he can break Shane Byrne’s winning streak as the MCE British Superbike championship resumes at Thruxton this weekend.

The 25-year-old remains second in the championship standings despite a tough past two rounds as he struggled with a mysterious brake issue with his JG Speedfit Kawasaki.

The team have since changed the brake fluid they were using and the master cylinder and were happy they’d cured the problem after the second race at Brands Hatch.

Mossey, who won two races earlier this year, is hoping his previous form at Thruxton, which has seen him take a podium every year he’s ridden in the Superbike class, will help him gain ground on Byrne this weekend.

“It was one of those things at Brands Hatch,” Mossey said. “It was out of my hands and it was the same brake problem as we had at Snetterton. The team has worked hard and sorted the issue, so the bike is looking good again.

“Last season at Thruxton I picked up a podium finish and did in 2015 too, so it’s a track which has always been good to me, even going back to my Supersport days. I feel good in myself and have no doubt that with the bike performing well we can be back up there again.

“I’m still second in the championship and feel confident I can break Shakey. He’s been riding well and full of confidence. They’ve got the Ducati right, but I want to go out and challenge.”
