BSB: Byrne hoping for 'normal service to resume' at Cadwell

Shane Byrne is looking to bounce back from what was a huge disappointment for himself and the Be Wiser Ducati last time out at Thruxton as the MCE British Superbike Championship heads for Cadwell Park this week.

Thruxton should have been a dream weekend for Byrne, who headed to the Hampshire circuit off the back of four consecutive victories. In 2016, the Hampshire circuit had been one of the best on the calendar for his Panigale R but he was unable to replicate that feeling throughout the weekend this year.

Struggling to maintain the pace at the front, Byrne would only finish fourth in the opening race before tyre issues would rule him out of the second result.

While Cadwell Park has never been too favourable to the five-time champion, a return to the top step at the Lincolnshire circuit last year for the first time since 2003 and a strong test at Cadwell two weeks ago gives him a boost in confidence ahead of this weekend’s eighth round.

“In some ways, it seems like Thruxton was months ago, I’m that keen to put what can only be described as a massive disappointment as far behind us as possible, but in other ways it feels like it was yesterday,” Byrne said. “I’m looking forward to getting to the next race now at Cadwell Park and hoping to resume some sort of normal service, and by that I mean winning. Thruxton actually taught us as a team a bit of a valuable lesson, one I’m very keen to put to good use this coming weekend. There are only two rounds left now to gain as many Podium Points as I can and I intend to grab as many as possible to put myself in the best possible position for the Showdown.”
