BSB: Byrne frustrated with Thruxton pace

1 of 1

Shane Byrne was furious after this afternoon’s MCE British Superbike qualifying at Thruxton as he was unable to replicate the pace he enjoyed at the super-fast circuit last year.

The Be Wiser Ducati star has struggled for outright pace all weekend despite his recent form which saw him go on to take two victories at both Snetterton and Brands Hatch.

A mistake on his one-lap flier in Superpole saw him set the fifth fastest time, but he was less than happy with how things have gone so far.

“I’m not very happy at all at the moment,” he told MCN. “I know the team are working really hard and the bike in theory is a little bit better than the bike from last year. This was the round I was really looking forward to coming to and we came here off the back of two really good rounds so it was all looking good!

“Last year the bike worked so well here, but this year things aren’t going our way. This is the best place in the world when things are going your way, but unfortunately when it’s not going your way it’s one of the cruellest ones as well. We’ve got some work to do, there’s no two ways about it.

“Looking at race runs I’m a bit more positive, we’re not in a bad position there, but I don’t understand how last year was so good for us and this year so difficult, so we’ll move back towards more of the bike we had last year.”
