BSB: Quickest ever lap of Brands Indy secures pole for Ellison

James Ellison will start tomorrow’s opening MCE British Superbike race from pole position after clocking the quickest ever lap of the Brands Hatch Indy circuit in qualifying this afternoon.

The McAMS Yamaha star had initially broken the outright lap record with a 45.097 second lap in FP1 on Saturday, but Luke Mossey upped the ante in FP3 with a 45.065.

The 44 second barrier was broken in FP1 by the JG Speedfit man, but Ellison bided his time to stick in his quickest time in the final, Q3 session to go 0.5 seconds quicker than the existing race lap record and secure pole for tomorrow’s race with a time of 44.728 seconds.

Leon Haslam completres the front row as the third rider to lap in the 44 second bracket, ahead of Shane Byrne who clocked a quickest time of 45’030.

John Hopkins will start fifth after an impressive performance for MotoRapido Ducati, with Honda’s Jason O’Halloran completing the second row as the Louth-based squad continue to show signs of improvement with the new Fireblade.
