BSB: McAMS Yamaha show early promise

McAMS Yamaha duo James Ellison and Micahel Laverty showed early promise at Donington Park despite disappointing results.

Ellison led the opening race before dropping back, out of the podium battle, as he suffered severe problems in corner entry due to an issue with engine braking. This would also plague the Cumbrian in the second race as he again fell back from the battle for the top three despite a strong start.

“It’s been a frustrating weekend,” Ellison admitted. “Testing went really well for us so expectations were high ahead of Donington. The weather made things slightly difficult as we didn’t get too many dry laps but even then I felt we could run at the front.

“I felt surprisingly comfortable at the front in race one, but after eight or nine laps I started experiencing backing in problems from our engine braking strategy and knew we were in trouble. I think it’s fair to say before that, I’d exceeded my expectations with the lack of track time etc, but the end result was for sure a disappointment and something we must learn from.”

Team-mate Michael Laverty also made a strong start in both races but was held back by chatter in race one before a technical problem ruled him out while sitting third in race two.
