BSB: Extra track time for Superbike class at Brands Hatch

Brands Hatch will play host to an Easter extravaganza of the 2017 MCE British Superbike Championship this weekend with the second round’s schedule extended to run over four days.

Initially, only the support classes were due to have sessions on the Friday as their free practice sessions get underway, but given the lack of dry track time at the official Donington test and only two dry practice sessions at the opening round after the cancellation of qualifying, series bosses offered teams an extra 75 minute test session at the second round.

With many teams notably suffering from the lack of track time at round one, especially the Honda and Suzuki squads which took delivery of new machinery over the winter, the move has been received well with weather forecasts for the weekend looking positive.

The session will also give reigning champion Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne the extra time he needs on track after missing the opening two races after a heavy crash in morning-warm-up.

The extra session will take place from 16:05 to 17:20 with the normal schedule then getting underway from Saturday morning ahead of racing on Bank Holiday Monday.

The second round at Brands Indy will also play host to a Dickies British Supersport triple header following the cancellation of the sprint race at Donington Park. The 600cc class will now head out for two 18 lap sprints on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s 26 lap feature race.
