BSB: Byrne looking to bounce back at Brands

1 of 1

Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne is looking to kick-start his title defence as the second round of the 2017 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship gets underway at Brands Hatch this Easter weekend.

Byrne missed the opening two races of the season two weeks ago at Donington after dramatically crashing out in morning warm-up and knocking himself out. Admitting he was a little rusty at the opening round, the five-time British Champion will be grateful for the extra testing time offered to riders for Friday afternoon ahead of Saturday’s official free practice.

Having already lost 50 points to his main title rival, Leon Haslam, Byrne will be out to impress at his home circuit, even though he admits the 1.2 mile Indy circuit is far from his favourite track.

“I’m very hopeful of getting my title defence off to a far better start during round two at Brands Hatch than I did at Donington Park, that’s for sure!” he said. “To be fair that shouldn’t be at all difficult seeing as a crash in warm up put me out of the round one races, so I’m a little behind having missed those races. But the plan is to make up for it in a big way this bank holiday weekend and where better than at my local circuit of Brands Hatch. I always enjoy racing there and am counting on plenty of support.”
