BSB: Irwin keen to help Byrne take title
Glenn Irwin has said he will do ‘whatever he can’ to help team-mate Shane Byrne clinch a fifth MCE British Superbike title if he’s in a position to do so at Brands Hatch this weekend.
The Northern Irishman is hoping for a return of the front-running pace he showed during the series’ last visit to Brands Hatch earlier this year, where he secured a fourth place finish in the second race.
Irwin hasn’t enjoyed the second half of the season he was hoping for after a string of top six results half way through the year. Held back through injuries sustained in a crash at Oulton Park, Irwin hasn’t been able to score higher than tenth since the Showdown started but he’s confident of changing that this weekend.

“It’s crazy that we are at the final round already,” he said. “It’s been a great learning year and I have been happy with my results, however I have three more races to add to my Thruxton podium. That’s my plan and of course also doing whatever I can to give Shakey the best chance of winning the title. I feel so much better now I’ve got my strength back after the last couple of rounds so I’m ready to go!”
