Byrne hoping for Brands Hatch fightback

Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne is looking to remind people why he’s a four-time MCE British Superbike champion at Brands Hatch this weekend as he sets out to make amends for two disappointing results at Oulton Park.

Byrne left the Cheshire circuit with just an eighth and sixth place finishes two weeks ago and is determined to show that it was just a blip for him and the Be Wiser Ducati team.

“Oulton Park was always going to be difficult. You don’t turn up at a BSB round thinking you’re going to smoke it when the other riders have had three or four hours of track time more than you already. It’s too competitive for that. That being said, we don’t go racing to finish sixth.”

The series next stop is Byrne’s home circuit, and he’s hoping that the short lap time will help with getting the Ducati up to speed sooner rather than later.

“I don’t see why Brands won’t suit the Ducati. It’s a tricky one. We had Silverstone which was fast and flowing and the bike worked really well there, since then we’ve improved the bike. The great thing about this project is we turn up at every single round with a blank sheet of paper, I go out and give my feedback and we get to where we’re going to get to.

“We’re just chipping away at making the bike better. There’ll be some upgrades coming throughout the season and we’re only going to get more knowledge about the bike and I’m only going to enjoy riding it more so I’d like to think we’re only going faster and faster. It’d be nice to think a win isn’t too far away and hopefully they’ll be like buses, you don’t get one for a while and then loads come at once. “
