BSB: Dixon gets first taste of RAF BMW

1 of 1

Jake Dixon got a first taste of Superbike power this morning as he made his debut on the RAF Regular and Reserves BMW.

Dixon spent the day’s opening session familiarising himself with the extra power of the BMW S1000RR compared to the MV Agusta 675 Supersport bike he’s been used to riding so far this year.

Setting the 18th fastest time of the session, just 2.5 seconds off the pace of Tommy Bridewell at the top of the timesheets, Dixon was grinning from ear to ear when he got off the bike.

“Wow! That was amazing. It’s so different to the Supersport bike,” he told MCN. “I’ve been told by a lot of people and I’ve got some great people around me in this team telling me how to ride it. Alastair has also given me a few tips. First impressions are just that it’s amazing, we’re chipping away and we’ll keep getting more and more used to it.

“We’ll keep progressing and not do anything stupid! The biggest difference is speed and how quick it accelerates; it’s incredible compared to Supersport. I went into turn one and thought I had braked way too late but I stopped in time and turned it in so I was kind of like ‘woah, I can go that fast into there?’”

Dixon is riding with the RAF BMW team after parting ways with the Tsingtao MV Agusta squad earlier this month, although it has not yet been confirmed whether he will remain with the Marham squad as the season resumes next weekend at Knockhill.
