BSB: Laverty hoping to return to sharp end at Snetterton

1 of 1

Michael Laverty is hoping to return to the sharp end as the MCE British Superbike championship heads to Snetterton this weekend.

The Tyco BMW star started the 2016 season as a favourite for the title and went on to show he meant business with victory in the opening race at Silverstone. However, despite strong flashes of pace, he hasn’t stood on the podium since that first round win.

One of the fastest men throughout practice last time out at Knockhill, a mistake in race one saw Laverty run off track while fighting for third place – he eventually finished eighth. Things didn’t get any better for race two, with his visibility reduced to zero after his visor leaked water into his helmet, he was lapped by the men he’s used to fighting at the front with.

Now outside the all-important showdown top six, Laverty will be looking to get his season back on track this weekend.

“We really need to get back into contention this weekend after a frustrating start to the season where things haven’t quite gone our way at times,” he said. “If we can pick up where we left off at the Snetterton test – top of the timesheets after only one day – then there’s no reason why we cannot be winning races. It’s a great track to ride and very similar to some of the world championship tracks, so I’m looking forward to getting out there on the Tyco BMW S1000RR.”
