BSB: Byrne confident Snetterton will suit Panigale

Four-time MCE British Superbike Champion Shane Byrne may have won the last five races at the Snetterton 300 circuit but isn’t resting on his laurels ahead of the fifth round of the 2016 series.

Byrne has embraced the challenge of taming Ducati’s Panigale R this season, resulting in two race victories so far with the Be Wiser PBM team leaving him second in the championship, just 13 points behind JG Speedfit Kawasaki man Leon Haslam.

Having already tested at Knockhill, the 39-year-old shouldn’t struggle to find the initial set-up for the bike around the 2.99 mile circuit, something that’s held him back at the start of the weekend at other circuits this year.

The squad also sees their first round of upgrades from Ducati Corse this weekend, including an all-new Termignoni rear-facing, underseat exhaust.

“We tested at Snetterton before Knockhill and although we didn’t get any clear laps in we did post some pretty fast times and we have a good base setting with the bike to start free practice with, which is good,” Byrne said.

“I think that the nature of the 300 circuit should suit the Panigale and we should get our first round of upgrades for the bike at Snetterton too. These aren’t going to make me ten seconds a lap faster, but they will potentially make life that little bit easier.

“I am really looking forward to Snetterton and seeing how the Be Wiser Ducati works with the potential new upgrades. I know that there are stats with how many races I have won at Snetterton in recent years but I tend not to count on the past – my priority is to make those numbers even more impressive!”
