BSB: Michael Laverty: 'We've a fight on our hands to stay in the showdown'

Michael Laverty admits he is lucky to remain in a showdown position after a second disastrous weekend for the Tyco BMW squad on the bounce.

The two-time race winner this season has been dramatically off the pace in the last two rounds and left Cadwell Park with just ten points to his name. Fortunately for the Ulsterman, a bout of bad luck for his rivals sees him cling on to fourth in the championship standings by the skin of his teeth.

“I thought it was going to be a bit of damage limitation this weekend but I didn’t expect it to be as bad as that. We struggled from day one to catch up to the others and even though we made a little bit of progress it was too little too late in the end.

“Realistically I can’t think about the title now but never say never. We’ve got a fight on our hands as there’s only ten points to the seventh-placed man so our aim now is to stay in the showdown.”
