BSB Thruxton: Shakey takes 44th win, becomes most successful ever

Defending champions Shakey Byrne became the most winningest rider in British Championship history today, taking his 44th win after a red flag brought the race to a premature end at Thruxton.

Keith Farmer led away from the line after qualifying on the first lap, but normal service was soon resumed as Shakey Bryne soon took the lead, before former champion Ryuichi Kiyonari crashed and brought out the safety car.

The restart saw Shakey get away, chased by Loews, Ellison and Brookes. A huge moment by Farmer at the Complex saw him drop back to sixth behind Michael Rutter, making his 400th BSB start.

Byrne managed to make a break at the front while a major fight for second developed, with Loews, Ellison and Brookes scrapping hard, until the safety car was again brought out on the 8th lap of 20 when Lee Costello crashed.

The top four continued their fight, although with no major changes, until lap 13, when an accident involving Tommy Bridewell and Karl Harris brought out the red flags and prematurly ended the race.
