Double Win for Tommy Hill

1 of 1

Tommy Hill completed an emphatic double in Monday’s second British Superbike Championship race at Cadwell Park, coming home just over two seconds clear of Josh Brookes. The Swan Yamaha rider grabbed the holeshot before being overhauled by Michael Laverty but, having shadowed the Samsung Honda rider for the first half of the race, he regained the lead on lap 9 with a good pass at Coppice.

From there on in Hill, the reigning Champion and current Championship leader, was never headed and in a carbon copy of the first race, he gradually pulled away in the second half of the race. It was close behind though with little to choose between Laverty, Brookes and Lowes but the Tyco Suzuki rider dived up the inside of Lowes and Laverty at the hairpin on laps 9 and 14 respectively to seal second and two valuable podium credits.

Laverty tried to respond but ultimately had to settle for his second third place of the weekend whilst Lowes held on for fourth to move into the all-important sixth place in the Championship table. Fifth in the race, and in the Championship, was the ever-consistent Tommy Bridewell who has almost secured his place in the Showdown.

Lowes’ team-mate James Westmoreland put in a strong ride to claim sixth and keep himself in contention for the Showdown with Ian Lowry doing similar in seventh. Peter Hickman, Karl Harris and Michael Rutter completed the top ten but Danny Buchan, fourth in the first race, was out of luck as he slid off at the Mountain.
