Hydrex Honda boss warns of rider pay-cuts

Hydrex Honda team boss Shaun Muir has issued a warning to prospective BSB riders not to expect the kind of wages that were once paid to the championship contenders.

Muir said: “Sylvain Guintoli will probably be the highest paid rider in BSB next year – the only one on superstar wages. But I reckon the best of the rest in BSB will only be able command £30-40,000 tops – maybe £50K.

“I think mechanics salaries will be tight too – and I see them having to do the short circuits and the roads.

“When we’re doing deals (the team bosses) with riders now I think there’s going to be some interesting offers on the table and I think there will be several tiers of offers.

“There has to be. Teams have to start thinking outside of the box because they aren’t going to the have the money to play with anymore.

“I see a basic salary plus a results-related bonus and then maybe a percentage of sponsorship money.”

His warning comes on the back of GSE Racing team boss Colin Wright’s recent comments in a monthly magazine that with so little money in the pot, not only are we going to see riders wages slashed, we’re also going to see less top teams so there’s going to be more bums than there are seats!
