Karl Harris was sacked by Hydrex Honda after Cadwell for a string of disappointing  performances.

He had a disappointing Croft riding the Node4 Yamaha and now he’s been thrown another lifeline – this time riding for SMT Honda in the final two BSB rounds of the season.

The team have missed three races through lack of funds but have now secured backing from sorrymate.com boss Fergus Dalgarno, who already supports Jenny Tinmouth in the British Supersport Cup, and will race under the joint ‘sorrymate.com/SMT Honda’ banner.

With SMT’s original rider Jason O’Halloran now sidelined with a broken wrist after a practice crash at Croft, team owner Robin Croft has turned to Karl Harris to campaign the Honda Fireblade for the rest of the year.

The Sheffield rider, recently released by Hydrex Honda, had a weekend to forget at Croft on the Node 4 Yamaha but knows the Honda machine inside out and is keen to show the racing world what he still has to offer.

SMT team owner Robin Croft said: “Karl knows the bike inside out and what we’ve been running all year is very similar to the bike he was riding at Hydrex Honda – we’ve had on-going support during the year from Shaun Muir and Mick Shanley and Karl’s desperate to get back on a Honda so it’s a hungry team and a hungry rider that will be heading to Silverstone.

“We’re all itching to get back and are planning to end the season with a flourish.”

The penultimate round of the British Superbike Championship takes place at Silverstone on September 25-27.
