Fogarty at Uster Grand Prix

Carl Fogarty is set to make a return to the Ulster Grand Prix on Friday, August 14 and on race day, Saturday, August 15 2009.

Fogarty might have won four WSB title but he was also the king of the roads in the World TT formula One series, winning the title in various guises three times – and it is 20 years since he raced on the famous Dundrod course in the Ulster GP.

He said: “It will be great to return after 20 years and catch up with some old friends and the fans there. The last time I was at the ‘Ulster’ was in 1989 when I won the Superbike race and clinched the TT Formula 1 world title, setting a new lap record.”
Fogarty may also lap the circuit on one of his old race bikes.

A local enthusiast acquired his 1993 888 Ducati bike and his personal replica of 1998 World Superbike Championship winning bike and has kindly offered him the choice of either bike to ride a lap of the circuit.

Fogarty added: “The course at Dundrod is a road racer’s dream over seven miles of roads on a real test for today’s road racers. I have always had great times racing in Ireland and had some good battles at the Ulster with the likes of Hizzy (Steve Hislop) and Joey (Dunlop).”
