Ulster GP backs British Supersport team

The Ulster Grand Prix has followed the precedent set by the North West 200 and backed a race team in the British championship.

The Ulster Grand Prix Bikeweek Race team, will consist of three Yamaha R6 for Jamie Hamilton, Stuart Elwood and Christian Elkin with the aim of alerting spectators to the Ulster Grand Prix and hopefully attracting them into making the trip across the Irish Sea to the world’s fastest road race.

Hamilton and Elwood will compete in the National Superstock class at BSB meetings while Elkin will fly the UGP flag at the Northwest 200 and Ulster Grand Prix.

The UGP team will be run as a satellite team from Seton Tuning who also run Hudson Kennaugh in supersport at BSB.

Noel Johnston of the UDP organising club, the  Dundrod & District MCC, said: “This project has been financially supported by a UGP race enthusiast who wishes to remain anonymous. We are indebted to his generosity enabling us to raise the profile of this great event.

“With the memories of 2008 UGP race day put to the back of our minds and into the history books as the first time in the 86-year history of the event that not one bike made it onto the grid (due to flooding).

“We are looking to the future with optimism and new-found encouragement with this launch.”
