Cadwell Park BSB – Free Practice 2

Leon Camier continued to dominate proceedings at Cadwell Park today when he blitzed the field in this afternoon’s second free practice session for Monday’s British Superbike round.

The Airwaves Yamaha rider put in a lap of 1m27.911s half way through the 50-minute session and ended up over a second clear of the chasing pack who simply couldn’t get near him.

Ian Lowry’s strong form continued and he was best of the rest in second place, which is how it looks like, at this stage, what place there’ll be fighting for come race day.

The young Irishman, the best class rookie by far this season, again showed well with a lap of 1m29.023s of coming early in the session on just his sixth lap.

Places below were changing all the time but a late charge by Stuart Easton saw him jump from the bottom of the top ten to third with Simon Andrews again on the pace in fourth just ahead of fellow Kawasaki rider John Laverty, just over a tenth of a second separating second to fifth.

Karl Harris edged closer to the front and placed sixth with Gary Mason again performing heroics on his privateer machine in seventh.

Meanwhile, Graeme Gowland made significant improvement from the morning session to take eighth although the Cumbrian, who won the Virgin Mobile R6 Cup race here in 2006, had been as high as fourth before being shuffled back in the closing stages.

The French pairing of Julien da Costa and Sylvain Guintoli completed the top ten only four tenths adrift of second placed Lowry; indeed, take Camier out of the equation and one second covered second to fifteenth, the HM Plant duo of John McGuinness and Karl Muggeridge taking the last two places in the top fifteen.

The session was red flagged with 16 minutes to go due to Jon Kirkham crashing out at the bottom of the Mountain although he was perfectly ok.
