Croft British Superbikes: Frustrating weekend for Airwaves despite win

Both GSE Racing representatives, Shane Byrne and Leon Camier, said they were frustrated by the weekends events at Croft even though the latter scored just his second BSB career victory.

Byrne headed to Croft with hopes of sealing his second BSB title, but a determined Tom Sykes and Leon Haslam put a halt to his celebrations with strong rides in both races to keep the title race going.

“It’s been a bad day at the office for me!” Byrne said.

“I’m gutted that I did not get on the podium in either race and I’m disappointed not to have wrapped up the championship here at Croft.

“In race one I worked hard to get myself up to third however I was pushed very wide on the final corner and driven back to fifth.”

Obviously unhappy with the move from Sykes, the GSE team did not make an official complaint against the overtake from Sykes on the final lap of race one which was deemed a fair pass by the majority of the paddock.

“That was gutting but it got me really fired up for race two, however that didn’t go to plan either and although I was lapping fast I couldn’t catch the front guys and had to settle for fourth,” added Byrne.

Croft turned out to be the first weekend Shakey didn’t step foot onto the podium, but one man who did was team-mate Leon Camier who had a storming race one win.

Camier said: “Obviously I’m delighted to get another win for the Airwaves Ducati team but I am disappointed not to get onto the podium for race two.

“I had a pretty average start in race one but was feeling really good and confident with my overtaking.

“I knew I could win it and was pleased when I did eventually cross the line.”
