Brands Hatch British Superbikes: Mechanical failure means Tom Sykes finishes fourth

1 of 1

After a sixth place finish in race one, Rizla Suzuki rider Tom Sykes was dealt a massive blow when hi GSX-R1000 came to a stop in race two, meaning he finishes the championship in fourth place behind HM Plant’s Cal Crutchlow.

Understandably disappointed, Sykes had this to say after his last race for Rizla Suzuki:

“That’s not the way I wanted to finish the 2008 season and it is not what the Rizla Suzuki team deserved.

“My bike simply stopped in the second race with a few laps to go and there was nothing I could do.”

Already looking ahead to his Yamaha Motor Italia ride in World Superbike, Sykes continued:

“I am an optimist by nature though and will take the positive from finishing fourth in the Championship and look forward from here.

An ever grateful Sykes spoke of his appreciation for the Rizla Suzuki team:

“A big thank you to PJ, Stuart, Simon and Dan my technicians for their hard work this year – well done boys, you are brilliant!

“Thanks also to all the fans and Rizla Suzuki for what has been a great BSB campaign.”
