Brands Hatch British Superbikes: Michael Laverty looks to suspension to improve lap times

In the first two sessions of the weekend Relentless Suzuki rider Michael Laverty was placed in ninth position with a best time of 46.877, and has targeted suspension changes in a bid to get further up the grid for the final round of British Superbikes.

Speaking to MCN, Laverty said: “We’re looking to change suspension at both ends of the bike, just so the it’s more comfortable.

“We’ve been looking to the front since we got here, basically trying to get more support from it through the first corner.”

Laverty had a problem yesterday with front-end chatter, but he said the team had found the problem.

“A small bearing in the top of the shock had worked loose on the forks yesterday – that was causing chatter at really strange points on the circuit,” added Laverty.

But it’s not just the front-end that the Irishman’s looking to change.

“With the rear we’re looking for help exiting the last corner, as it’s so important for the overall lap time.”

Laverty had planned to go out on track 20 minutes into the session, but damp conditions meant many riders stayed inside their garages until later in the third free practice session of the weekend.

After a difficult session for all riders, Laverty could only muster a 48.544, demoting him to 20th on the provisional grid.
