Oulton Park British Superbikes: Airwaves Ducati concentrate on practice race runs

Both Airwaves Ducati riders Leon Camier and Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne have said they’ve used today’s two Free Practice sessions to complete vital race runs before Monday’s two 18 lap BSB races.

The Airwaves team has focussed much of their attention on making the new control Pirelli tyres last race distances, and despite carrying on the same today Byrne posted the third fastest lap of the day with Camier just three spots behind him.

Byrne said: “Today was about race runs for us and this morning I was fast and feeling good but this afternoon I had an interrupted start to the session which meant that I was not as quick as I could have been.

“I’ve established a good race rhythm and in both sessions my race simulation times were good.

“We have a few things planned for tomorrow and I am confident I can go a lot quicker.”

Leon Camier had a pretty similar strategy for the practice sessions, completing a massive 50-laps in the pair of 50 minute sessions.

And all this despite still feeling some of the affects of his Calafat testing crash back in March and his Mountain crash at Cadwell last season.

“Physically I am feeling ok, although the tight chicane here does put some pressure on my shoulder it will not affect my racing too much.

“I think I can do well in qualifying tomorrow; this is a circuit I like and I am looking forward to racing here on Monday.”
