Knockhill British Superbikes: Haslam takes pole

Leon Haslam has taken his first pole of the season after the qualifying session for the Knockhill round of the British Superbikes championship.

Haslam put in a storming lap on his HM Plant Honda Fireblade to finish the wet session 0.2 seconds faster than second placed man Michael Rutter.

Rutter had looked set to take pole on his North West 200 Ducati 1098 but Haslam upped his pace in the closing stages of the session and Rutter just couldn’t match it.

Series leader Shane Byrne took third on the grid, just eight thousandths of a second back from Rutter, with Relentless Suzuki rider Michael Laverty taking his GSX-R1000 to the final place on the front row of the grid.

Haslam’s HM Plant Honda team-mate Cal Crutchlow tops the second row followed by Leon Camier, Tom Sykes, and James Ellison.

This is the final time we’ll see this format for qualifying in BSB with the series adopting a new F1 inspired knock-out qualifying from the next round at Cadwell Park.
