The stars of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship roar into George Square in Glasgow with a show-stopping performance on Wednesday June 27 as they warm up for the Knockhill round of the series the following Sunday.
There will be a strong Scottish presence including Scottish motorcycling legend and three-time British Superbike champion, Niall MacKenzie, former British Supersport champion Stuart Easton and two riding stars of the future  Kev Coghlan and Robbie Stewart.
Joining them will Airwaves Ducati riders Gregorio Lavilla and Leon Haslam; Isle of Man TT winners John McGuinness and Ian Hutchinson with their Hondas; former champion Shane Byrne and his Stobart Motorsport team-mate Tom Sykes; Tommy Hill and his Virgin Media Yamaha teamsters; Rizla Suzukis Cal Crutchlow and Chris Walker; Kawasaki rider Michael Rutter and host of others.
They will be putting in demonstration laps around the George Square as they take Superbike racing to the heart of the city and there will the chance for everyone to get up close to the action and participate in the fun of the day. There will also be an opportunity to see the bikes being prepared, chat to the competitors and ask for autographs.
It’s the first time Glasgow City Council has hosted ‘Superbikes in the Square’ which carries a serious message promoting road and bike safety. The event is the result of collaboration between Glasgow City Council’s Land & Environmental Services; the British Superbike championship (BSB) and Knockhill Racing Circuit.
Councillor Ruth Simpson, Executive Member for Land and Environmental Services, said: “This is a first for Glasgow and underlines our ability and commitment to host major sporting events. I am sure everyone will find the event exciting.”
The free event, featuring riders and teams from what is generally regarded as the toughest domestic series in the world, will take place on Wednesday, June 27, between 5.30pm and 9pm. It will also provide a warm up for the Scottish round of the championship at Knockhill Racing Circuit on Sunday 1st July.
