Knockhill reporter competition winner meets her heroes

As winner of the MCN and THINK! road safety reporter competition, Janice Cheetham, a Training Manager and keen biker from Manchester, was on hand at a rain soaked Knockhill for round 7 of the British Superbike Championships.          

Having been up at 6am, Janice made the long journey to the Fife track with her husband and fellow biker, Ronnie, and was treated to a master class of riding in the wet by rising BSB star Jonathan Rea, who emphatically won both races.

Six a.m. and we were on our way up the M6. The day was wet and as we arrived at Knockhill the ground looked more suitable for mud wrestling. But hey that’s the British summer for you!

My first port of call was to visit the THINK! Motorcylce Academy which was buzzing . Former three times BSB Champion and Rizla Suzuki team ambassador John Reynolds and rider Cal Crutchlow were busy bringing home the message of bike safety with a series of interviews and interacting with the gathered crowds to sign a seemingly never ending stream of autographs.

It was a real pleasure and honour to meet John Reynolds and fascinating to hear how passionate he is about his ambassadorial role with the THINK! Motorcylce Academy and the importance of road safety to bikers. With torrential rain pouring in from the Firth of Forth, the conditions certainly reinforced the need for road safety.

On the track Jonhathan Rea was awesome. In the first race he set an incredible 52.578 sec lap in treacherous conditions on his HM Plant Honda, followed in second place by team mate Ryuichi Kiyonari, and pocket rocket Leon Haslam on the Airwaves Ducati taking third.

Jonathan then showed just how brilliant he was by winning the second race of the afternoon, a breathtaking performance that helped lift the crowd’s spirits on the wettest of afternoon’s imaginable.
 
Having been looked after brilliantly all afternoon, the day finished on a real high as we got to meet the man himself, Jonathan Rea, along with Leon Haslam, Michael Rutter and lots of other riders.
 
It was certainly a day we will never forget!
