British Superbikes: James Haydon tests for Hawk Kawasaki

James Haydon was back on a British Superbike this week when he tested the Hawk Kawasaki at Mallory.

Although he was only eight tenths off the lap record after four 20-minute sessions, Haydon is still not sure about his immediate future.

James Haydon told motorcyclenews.com: “It was so nice to be back on a bike and back on Dunlop’s. To be that close to the lap record in such a short time, and during an open practice day, made me feel really happy.

“As soon as I got on the bike it felt like I’d never been away. The bike has a lot of potential but with so little time, we didn’t change much.

“It has Bitubo suspension and I’ve never used it before. It felt good but ideally we could have done with altering the springs and rear unit to suit me more.

“But I just had so much fun. I had a few doubts after leaving Yamaha but the test proved to me I’ve lost nothing on a bike with tyres I have confidence in.

“I’m not sure what happens now. I’m talking to the team but I’m a professional rider doing a professional job so I would want to make sure all the pieces in the jigsaw fit before committing to anything, though  I’d love to work with the team and help push Scott (Smart – the team’s number one rider) along.

“I’m still hungry for it though.”

James Haydon did say it would be unlikely that he’ll be racing at Croft.
