Croft British Superbikes: HM Plant Honda's Jonathan Rea quickest in free practice one

HM Plant Honda’s Jonathan Rea was the fastest man on track this morning in the first British Superbike free practice at Croft.

The Northern Irishman was on the pace for the majority of the session, setting his fast lap on his final outing of the session around the North Yorkshire track at 1:19.839.

The Airwaves Ducati pairing of Gregorio Lavilla and Leon Haslam were second and third respectively, split by just two hundredths of a second at 1:20.620 and 1:20.640.

Rizla Suzuki’s Cal Crutchlow put in a n impressive session to finish fifth with a best time of 1:20.769.

Stobart Vent Axia Honda’s Tom Sykes, fastest at the recent test at Croft, only managed a 1:20.825 in sixth place. It is reported the team have been trying out some new elements on the Honda and will revert back to their regular set up for the second session this afternoon.

It was not a good session for the Camier family as Alex, who is ridign for Hawk Kawasaki this weekend, crashed on the complex section with eight minutes to go, while Leon’s Honda suffered a technical problem with three minutes to go.

Cup rider Paul Barron also crashed out of the session, only managing 13 laps.
