Lavilla ups the pace at Silverstone

Gregorio Lavilla upped the pace in the second practice session at Silverstone this afternoon (Friday) by going half a second quicker.

The Spaniard, who has won all four races so far this weekend, recorded a time of 1:26.158 just over three tenths of a second ahead of Yamaha rider Tommy Hill.

Hill was set to go quicker than the Airwaves Ducati man this afternoon as he was quicker in the first sector and equal in the second but the lap was aborted due to a red flag.

Jonathan Rea was the third fastest rider with a time of 1:26.612.

Shakey Byrne suffered a minor crash at Becketts whilst lying in third position. The Stobart Vent Axia rider caused minimal damage but was forced to head back to the garage to fetch his spare bike as he could not get his restarted.

Someone who was not quite so fortunate was Leon Haslam who crashed out at Maggotts bringing out a red flag with 29 minutes of the session left.

The 23-year-old was taken to the circuit’s medical centre for precaution. He has a bruised thigh for his efforts but will be okay to carry on riding tomorrow.

James Buckingham brought out the second red flag and an early end to the session when he went off at Becketts.

With just one minute 26 seconds to go it was not worth the riders heading back out on the circuit so the additional time will be added on to the free practice three session tomorrow.
