Are Tom and Ben Birchall your 2018 MCN Racers of the Year?

1 of 1

After another epic season of racing, MCN’s sports team of Michael Guy (Sports Editor), Simon Patterson (MotoGP reporter) and Oli Rushby (Superbike reporter) sat down to discuss who impressed them the most in each race series we cover – and to whittle down a shortlist of exactly who was the most impressive racers of the season.

With that in mind, we’ve came up with a list of seven – but we need your help to cut that down to award the 59th running of our Racer of the Year award!

Tom and Ben Birchall

When you look back at the astounding season that sidecar supremoes Tom and Ben Birchall enjoyed in 2018, it’s hard not to be impressed. The Nottinghamshire brothers conquered everything in front of them, not only taking record-breaking Isle of Man TT wins in their road racing campaign but also lifting the world title on circuit as well.

Dominating at the TT to win both races, they also upped the pace in the progress, breaking their won lap records multiple times to finish the fortnight with a new average speed of 119.250mph as they upped their overall win tally to eight.

And despite getting a slow start to their circuit racing campaign, the pair were equally unstoppable in the world championship. Running second fiddle to Tim Reeves and Mark Wilkes for much of the year, they were able to haul back a 51-point deficit in only three races to retain their title and take their third world championship win.
