JURBY, ISLE OF MAN, SUNDAY

After four days of warm weather testing at Cartagena in Spain, Dan Kneen was on scorching form in the opening round of the Isle of Man Centre Road Race Championship at Jurby Motordrome on Sunday.

The only rider ever to secure three Manx GP victories in one week, the star young rider from Douglas won the first eight-lapper by more than seven seconds from Mark Cringle, with teenager Callum Collister holding off Si Fulton and Tim Venables for third.

Kneen rode the same Marks Bloom Suzuki K7 to victory in the second championship race, but this time Cringle was glued firmly to his rear-wheel on the 675 Triumph.

British Formula Two champions Nick Crowe and Mark Cox were on record pace in the chairs, smashing the three-wheel lap record for the GP circuit with a lap of 1 min 11.568 sec in the opening F2 race. They also won the first championship race at a canter, but missed out on a possible clean sweep as Cox had to leave early to catch a flight home to Kent.

Reigning Centre champions Karl Bennett and Lee Cain won the second championship race on Crowe’s former DMR Honda outfit, also winning the remaining F2 race after an early dice with TT regulars Steve Coombes and Paul Knapton.

WORLD INDOOR TRIALS, MADRID, SPAIN, SATURDAY

Toni Bou wrapped up the World Indoor trials championship in Madrid on Saturday evening with a penalty free winning ride in the fifth and final round in the series.

Sherco rider Albert Cabestany beat former champion Adam Raga in a tiebreaker for runner-up champion.

Bou headed the qualifying scores followed by Takahisa Fujinami and Adam Raga.

Outsider Jeroni Fajardo finished a poor sixth in the qualifiers then stunned a smaller than normal audience with an electrifying ride in the final to finish in second place.

Brit Michael Brown finished in seventh place in the title chase just ahead of Dougie Lampkin.

All the contenders now move on to the opening round of the outdoor championship in troubled Ulster on April 4-5.

There are already adverse comments on travelling to the province for the event.
