Easter Monday at Kirkistown, Northern Ireland

1 of 7

On a cold, windy morning 3 of us headed down to Kirkistown for the traditonal Easter Monday races on board our ZX6R and two Fazers.

The Easter Monday races always attract a big crowd and this time was no exception!

The first 125 race got underway and almost immediatley there was a red flag – noone was injured thankfully. In the end, Paul Robinson won it just ahead of Mark Lunney and Mark Stott.

Then they ran the Irish Superbike race one and what a disaster! On the opening lap the reigning ISB champion (Michael Pearson) had a big off which I managed to get some pictures of and he ended up with a broken hand! This caused a red flag.

We got underway again and were halted by yet another red flag where two or three riders collided. Everyone was ok. They decided to call this race off and move to the mini twins, supersport, sidecars and classic (jurassics) races.

The supersport race was a great battle with many riders aiming to win including Amor, Lowry, Donald, Farquhar and of course Alastair Seeley. After a good race long battle, Lowry came out on top with Seeley, Amor, Donald, Nutt and Farquhar not too far behind.

There was then a riders meeting held were although the riders were happy to race on, the organisers decided differently.

The meeting was cancelled due to lack of grip. The meeting is set to be re-run later in the year.
