Shorttrack UK Championship: Marco Belli wins at Amman Valley

Reigning Shorttrack UK champion Marco Belli won the second round of the season at the half-mile Amman Valley Circuit in Carmarthen, South Wales at the weekend.

The CCM rider on the British FT510 motorcycle beat championship rival Peter Boast to take the victory in a 36-strong field in perfectly sunny conditions.

Belli took an emphatic victory in his semi final to ensure a front row start in the final, and from there his impressive form of the weekend continued. Boast took the initial lead but Italian Belli started to mount his attack on the back straight.

Suzuki rider Boast did try and fight back, but Belli was just too strong and he crossed the finish line well ahead of the chasing pack.

In the CCM Junior Shorttrack Championship Tom Wooley recorded his second victory of the season ahead of Joe Moore and Ben Baker.

The companion Thunderbike class had its largest entry of the season, with 20 riders using the opportunity of riding the half-mile track to really get the higher capacity, multi-cylindered monster machines opened up.

The extraordinarily high-speed final saw Amman Valley first-timer Jan-Willam Jansen on his XR1200cc Harley Davidson push Boast on the Suzuki Twin for top spot. Reigning champion, Boast got the upper hand ahead of Jansen while Jon Lee brought his 700cc Honda twin home into third spot. 

The enterprising Jansen deservedly found himself awarded the HelmetsRu Rider of the night award.

The next round will be held at South Tees Motorsport Park, Redcar, Middleborough on Sunday, July 6, 2008.
