TONFANAU, GWYNEDD, SUNDAY

There were some exciting racing at this the last meeting of the season at the Tonfanau circuit starting with the 400 Supersport. The sun shone all afternoon and we saw some close and fantastic racing between Vincent Brett, Anthony Harrison and Alastair Bayley. With two wins and a second Vincent Brett took first place on the day, with Anthony Harrison just pipping him to the post for the season’s championship trophy.

In the classic machines 125 and 250 single cylinders Dave Edwards took first place on the day, with three straight wins but Martin Budden collected the championship trophy.

The 250 classic machines championship race had already been won by Pete Hall, but the days point went to Geoff Hadwin with three victories.

Scott Dootson took maximum points on the day in the 50 racing machine class with some very tidy riding throughout the season Scott also took the championship trophy home with him. Others riders were hit with mechanical problems, race three saw John Miller’s Kreidler seized and Bill Pilling’s Suzuki gearbox locked up. Alan Leeson, James Gellatley and Ray Dennerley all had gremlins too. The classic 50 racers are looking forward to 2009.

The open class saw some excellent racing between the leading championship contenders. Andrew Gibson went into today’s meeting at the top of the championship leading Chris Mort by just two points. Christopher Dean took first place on the day with two firsts and a second, but Andrew Gibson took the championship maintaining the two point gap until the end of the day.

In the classic machines 251-500 Neil Ogden took first place on the day beating Paul Booth by just a single point. The gap between them was 15 points in the championship with Neill scoring a season total of 76 points to clinch the title.

Richard Ford took a clean sweep finishing first in each race in the classics over 501 class. Mick Crompton followed him home with three second places which was enough to give Mick the season’s championship.

Vicente Clark took another clean sweep with three first place finishes in the Forgotten Era 501 and over. Paul Myler finished second in each race and capped an excellent season’s racing taking home the championship trophy.

In the steel frames Matthew Adam’s 27 point tally for the afternoon gave him first place with Mark Robinson second and Darren Johnson third. Matthew Adams also won the club champion ship finishing the season with 101 points.

In the 125GP class consistent riding throughout the day saw James McIvor finish with three first places, Mike Brunsdon three seconds and Kimberley Rose three thirds. Mike Brunsdon took the championship following a season of very impressive results.

Although Christopher Dean took three firsts and won the afternoon trophy in the 250GP class the absent Steve Green had already sewn up the season championship with a total of 85 points.

In the forgotten up to 250 Caron Roberts took both the afternoon trophy and the championship scoring two wins and a second. James O’Brien pushed Caron all the way with second places and a victory in the final race.

Vincent Brett won the afternoon trophy and the club championship in the Forgotten Era 251-500. Brad Mason came second overall on the day.

In the sidecars Craig Hauxwell and David Beattie finished the season as champions having never finished outside the top two places until the very final race of the year when they were forced to retire on the sighting lap.
