Reeves & Farrance unbeaten so far

World champions visit Snetterton.

Usually when I get brown envelopes through the door they contain letters from bill! But this one was different; it contained two tickets, and a personal invitation form Mike Dommett, CEO at the BMCRC & MRO one of the UK’s leading motorcycle racing clubs, founded in 1909 to visit Snetterton in Norfolk, and watch 3 times F1 sidecar world champions Tim Reeves and Patrick Farrance in action aboard their Eastern Airways LCR Suzuki 1000.

Tim and Patrick were at Snetterton for rounds 3 and 4 of the British sidecar championship, rounds 1 and 2 being held at Donnington Park over Easter.

Tim and Patrick won both races at that meeting giving them top spot in the table so far. This awesome pair of racers bought the F1 sidecar world title home in 2005, 2006, and 2007, and I can’t wait to see them in action again at Donington Park for round 1 of the 2008 world championship battle which begins in May on the 24th to the 26th alongside the Bennett’s British Superbike championship, so an amazing weekend of motorsport to be had over the May bank holiday.

I did speak with Tim and arrange an interview, but due him to blowing up his engine during the first qualifying session, (even so they managed a top time of 1:08.690 giving them a speed of 102.303mph,) he had to change his engine and get out for the second qualifying session later that day. So no time to sit with a coffee and chat, I will however catch up with him at Donington.

Due too heavy rain on the Saturday afternoon the second session was postponed till Sunday morning, giving the guys a much needed breather to deal with the Suzuki.

You wouldn’t see Rossi changing his own engine or wearing an apron, that’s for sure.

The second session time was very nearly as fast as the first with a time of 1:09.483 giving them pole position.

Race 1 Tim and Patrick lead from the start and were away quickly, winning with a margin of 6.572 seconds and a best speed of 101.705mph.

Race 2 This race took place in violent and heavy rain, it was this race that showed us why Tim and Patrick are a force to be reckoned with, lapping several other teams, to win with a margin of some 16.873 seconds, and best speed of 77.897mph, it was so wet, fish were reported as being seen in the bomb hole.

Unfortunately due to our English weather and the demise of bsb at brands, and being re scheduled for May, this means rounds 5 and 6 of the British sidecar championships have been cancelled unless another venue can be found.

So the sidecars have their next meeting at Cadwell Park in June.

We would like to thank Mike for his hospitality, and we are looking forward to Donington and Cadwell.
