17 year old irish lad wins 8 out of 8 at cadwell park

Irish Boy takes Cadwell by Storm.

This weekend just gone saw New Era Racing Club hold rounds 2 and 3 of the New Era Club Championships, 14 races on the Saturday, and 14 races on the Sunday.

Leeds based rider, 17 year old John Simpson, riding a standard Triumph 675, being supported by Trickbits UK, and J&M Distribution Systems, took the circuit by storm, claiming victory in all his 8 races over the two days.

John is from Antrim in Northern Ireland, and began racing in 2004 on mini motos, getting many lap records in this year, and came second in the Irish mini moto championship in 2005, in 2006 he became Irish newcomer champion in 125 GP.

2007 saw john take the new era racing club cb 500 championship and 3rd in the new era superclub cb 500 championship.

Also in 2007 john had a wild card ride in the KTM supermoto class on invite from KTM themselves, this race took place within the British Superbike round at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire.

John qualified 17th and finished 10th.

John said “My aim is to build towards a Superstock ride for 2009, this season I am going to concentrate on the New Era championship, if i do well at this level, i hope to get a wild card ride in the Superstock class at the British Superbike Round at Cadwell park.

“I love Cadwell Park, and i go well here, I have a lot to learn yet, but I am eager. I want to do my absolute best for all those helping support me.”

Paul Jinks, owner of Trickbits uk said before racing started on Saturday  “I think this boy has got what it takes to go as far as he wants to go, he is quick, and very smooth, John can make up time in the corners, where others struggle, is brilliant under braking, and a lightning starter.”

After the racing finished on Sunday Neil Lindley of Petrolhead Motorcycles and J&M distribution said “I agree with Paul, and I have every faith in John, he is very seriously good, as he has proven today how good he is, he has impressed his rivals so much, they have got together to support him with tyres, and other stuff, now that says an awful lot, and i am so proud to be helping John start what i hope will be a great career.”

John qualified on pole for both the sound of thunder class, with a 2.28 second margin, and the formula 600 class with 0.70 second margin. John went on to win all of his 4 races on Saturday.

Race 1 sound of thunder class by a margin of 13.66 seconds, and fastest lap with a time of 1:35.46, Race 4 on the new era card, formula 600 class, was won with a margin of 7.96 seconds, and again with fastest lap time of 1:35.58.

Race 7 on the new era card, sound of thunder class, was won with a margin of 3.12 seconds, and again with a fastest lap time of 1:35.71.

Race 10 on the new era card, formula 600 class, was won with a margin of 9.88 seconds, and a lap time of 1:35.16. John also won all of his 4 races on the Sunday, in very wet conditions.

Race 1 sound of thunder class, with a margin of 20.95 seconds, and a fastest lap time of 1:47.34 Race 4 on the new era card, formula 600 class, was won with a margin of 7.58 seconds, and missed fastest lap by 0.4 of a second.

Race 7 on the new era card, sound of thunder class, was won with a margin of 22.47 seconds, and a fastest lap time of 1:45.45. Race 10 on the new era card, formula 600 class, was won with a margin of 4.79 seconds and a lap time of 1:42.74.

John finished the weekend by being awarded man of the day for Saturday and man of the day for Sunday; this award is decided by the marshals on duty all around the circuit. And the decision was unanimous.
