Supermoto: Team GB to Supermoto of Nations

The second annual Supermoto of Nations takes place at the impressive Franciacorta race complex near Brescia in Northern Italy this weekend.

After the inaugural event held at Bishopscourt, Northern Ireland last year the event has continued to grow with 21 Federations submitting teams from as far a field as South Africa, Greece, Bulgaria, and Venezuela.

There are also four junior teams of riders 21 and under, so 75 of the world’s best Supermoto riders will put aside personal glory to race for their country’s in what promises to be a fantastic event.

After their success in finishing third last year the British Team of newly crowned double British champion Christian Iddon (Aprilia Off road Factory) Matt Winstanley (Robinsons KTM UK) and Sam Warren (SR Offroad/Alice Racing Aprilia) are looking for more success this year.

With Christian Iddon and Matt Winstanley lying fourth and sixth in the World standings respectively and Sam Warren having just won the final round of the British Championship at Silverstone the “A” team are in confident mood.

Christian Iddon said: “We are all looking forward to this event, it will be great to ride with your rivals for your country rather than against them, there is also the great opportunity for me Matt and Sam to race against all the World Championship riders as both S1& S2 classes will be out together.

“I’d also like to add my thanks to all the sponsors for supporting us but especially the ACU for their generous support”

The ACU have helped significantly with travel costs which has enabled a Junior Team to be picked and Team Manager David Dearden went for the top three eligible youngsters in the British Championship to create a strong “B” team of Chris Hodgson (Robinson KTM) George Clements (TRM Honda) and Richard Blakeman (Robinson KTM).

David Dearden said, “The whole team is really up for this event, we have just come from the climax of the British Championship at Silverstone, we have the top three riders in the country in our A team.

“Christian, Matt and Sam have all shown they can compete at World level and we are definitely going to try to win.

“The Italians look very strong but I think everyone is looking at the French as the team to beat, it is a real dream team with the Chareyre brothers and Van den Bosch but we still fancy our chances of a bit of an upset.

“I also think the Junior team will surprise a few people Chris Hodgson is really on top form and the experience he and Richard Blakeman have gained will stand them in good stead.

“George Clements is a very strong young rider his bike is fast and I’m sure he will go very well. We have also received great support from within the sport to enable us to compete”
