Scott Redding wins again at Albacete

Scott Redding had another great weekend at the Albacete circuit in Spain riding in the Spanish National Championship.

The 14-year-old had already enjoyed a winning performance at the same circuit for the Catalan Championship the previous weekend when he set a record qualifying time of 1:33.644 with a 1:33.124 lap on his BQR team prepared Blusens-Aprilia. But this time the competition was even hotter and he still came out on top.

He led the Spanish Championship race from start to finish with only Efren Vazquez, usually a 250 rider and also on a Blusens-Aprilia, his only challenger.

Efren Vazquez, who produced the fastest race lap at 1:33.684, sportingly told Scott after the race he was on the limit all race but had no answer to Scott Redding’s pace.

Scott Redding said: “I felt in control the whole race and was certainly not going to let Efren through. I felt that I still had something in reserve” commented the 14-year-old race winner.

Stefan Bradl, also on a BQR prepared Blusens-Aprilia finished fourth to retain his championship lead while Scott moves into third but 25 points behind.

With just 50 possible points left it’s a tall order for Scott Redding to clinch the championship but he will certainly not be phased by that.

He said: “It’s a tall order and it would mean I’d have to win at the last two races at Valencia and Jerez in November to stand any possibility of an overall win or, at least, a second place in the series but I’ll be giving it my best shot.”
